Carrick, on the Bass Highway midway between Launceston and Deloraine, was a grain growing centre in the first half of last century. A mill dating from 1870 has been restored.

The historic village contains a number of old buildings of particular interest to visitors including the ‘Carrick Inn’ - licensed hotel, the ‘Waterhouse’ - the Old Gaol, ‘Christies’ - an old Georgian shop, the ‘Prince of Wales Hotel’ - now a private residence and Hawthorn Villa - now colonial accommodation. Also see the Tasmanian Copper and Metal Gallery in Church Street. Carrick is part of the Great Western Tiers Touring Route.
