Conara was originally known as the Corners and is now by-passed by the Midland Highway. It was the town you changed trains from the main line (Launceston - Hobart) to the East Coast.
There is a pleasant rest stop and picnic recreation area with native vegetation interpretation centre adjacent to the Heritage Highway.
