Cradle Mountain has joined Mount Everest and the Great Barrier Reef on the World Heritage List. It is situated at the northern part of Cradle Mountain/Lake St.Clair National Park with the beautiful Dove Lake adjacent.

Seven kilometres drive from Dove Lake, close to the National Parks Visitor Centre, an excellent range of accommodation can be found. This ranges from camping, dormitory, self-contained cabin and B&B, to Luxury Lodge & Hotel style.

Cradle Mountain Chateau offers an ideal base to explore the rugged World Heritage wilderness, including famous Lake St. Clair and Dove Lake. The Village also has a bottleshop, a petrol station, a private airstrip and a tour office, Gentle Adventure Tours, which offers a wide range of outdoor activities for the public.

Guides are available through most accommodation places as well as other private operators for many outdoor activities and the Parks & Wildlife Services at the Visitor Centre offer a seasonal activity program. Reservations for the Waldheim Huts and registration for overnight walks should be done here, too.

All roads and walking tracks around the National Park are very well maintained. On beautiful scenic roads, Cradle Mountain is an easy 50 minute drive from Sheffield, an 85 minute drive from Devonport, a 90-minute drive away from Strahan and 90 min from Burnie, and is slightly less than 2 hours from Launceston.

There are many walks from 20 mins to 2 hours to half day to full day as well as the wonderful 5 day overland trek through to Lake St. Clair.
