DISTANCES: Hobart 61Km

A prosperous fishing village, Dunalley stands on the narrow isthmus connecting the Forestier Peninsula. The Denison Canal, spanned by a swing bridge, links Blackman and Frederick Henry Bays, thus considerably shortening the distance from Hobart to the east coast for small vessels.

A few miles from Dunalley near Cape Paul Lamanon is the Tasman Monument marking the first landings by white men on December 2, 1642. Abel Tasman commanding the Dutch ships ‘Heemskirk’ and ‘Zeehan’ named the island Van Diemen’s Land in honour of the then Governor of the Dutch East Indies.
