Geeveston is an important tourism service centre. The area has had a long association with the timber industry, based on the highly productive eucalypt and rain forests in the rugged hinterland terrain.

Settlement dates back to 1842, with the arrival of the Geeves family from England, after whom the town takes its name and whose descendants are still prominent in the area.

The Forest & Heritage Centre on Church Street is an important focus for visitors wishing to participate in forest walks in the Arve Valley area, Airwalk tickets/passes area available. Phone (03) 6297 1836.

Guided tours can be arranged which include Keogh’s Creek, West Creek Lookout, Big Tree and Zig Zag walks, plus take a walk in the tree tops at Tahune Forest Airwalk only 29kms from Geeveston on the Huon River. The setting at Tahune is also superb for BBQ’s, picnics, rafting and photography. Among identified tree species is the Huon Pine, still growing in its natural habitat.

There are safe sailing and fishing waters with boat ramp facilities within easy reach of Geeveston. Other recreational activities include golf, tennis, football, bowls and heated indoor swimming pool.
