Gunns Plains (Caves)
View Location Map
Principally a farming district, there are also huge quantities of high-grade limestone in the area. Several picturesque picnic, barbecue and recreational areas have
been developed along the banks of the Leven River.
WHAT TO SEE AND DO
The limestone cave system here is arguably one of the best in Tasmania. The
caves also feature an underground river and glow worm displays. They are well lit
to enhance their beauty and guided tours are provided.
Wings Wildlife Park provides camping, caravan park, cabins, and backpacker units
in a peaceful rural setting.
At Wings Wildlife Park is the Tasmanian Reptile Centre. It now houses an
extensive wildlife display including Tassie devils, quolls, etc.
Laze under the willow trees on the banks of the Leven River or for the more active there is trout fishing, cave exploring, bush walking, swimming and kayaking.
Local art and craft is available at Leven Valley Vineyard in Gunns Plains. Sample some award winning cool climate wines and take in the views.
