Kingston is the administrative centre of the Kingborough Municipal Area, which extends from Taroona south to Gordon and includes Bruny Island.
The Federal Government’s Antarctic research headquarters, the Australian Antartic Division, have been established at Kingston and an interesting display is open to visitors on weekdays from 9am - 5pm.
A delightful scenic drive may be taken through Blackmans Bay, Tinderbox and Howden, with a magnificent view to Droughty Point in the north to Bruny Island and Storm Bay in the south being afforded from the Piersons Point Lookout.
At Blackmans Bay, the reserve on Blowhole Road contains a small blowhole in the well-jointed Permian mudstone which, during heavy storms, is quite spectacular.
The area is one of the fastest growing major residential areas in greater Hobart.
