Koonya has a link with the convict past in that it was an important outpost for timber milling. A convict-powered tramway brought timber from the hills behind Koonya down to the waterfront for shipment.
Colonial accommodation is available in former officer’s quarters built by convicts in 1845.
Horse riding over scenic bushland tracks is available nearby.
