The pretty town of Lilydale is a popular haven for artists and craftspeople. The peaceful lifestyle and scenic outlook are inspirational for the creative. The area features many studios displaying paintings, drawings, sculptures, pottery, wood-turning, leatherwork and knitwear. Of historic interest is the General Store which has supplied this community since 1888 and is one of very few general stores left in Australia.

Lilydale Falls Reserve, 3 km from the town, is a popular picnic area. A short, easy walk will find two sets of falls, one above the other which, although small, are quite picturesque.

On the reserve are two oak trees that were grown from acorns from the Great Park at Windsor, being planted on Coronation Day - May 12, 1937. The reserve has amenities, fireplaces, toilets, water and camping facilities. A charge is made for showers, caravan power connection and camp sites.

For bush walkers, Mt Arthur near Lilydale offers a variety of accessible tracks and scenic walks providing wonderful mountain views.

A short distance from Lilydale, enjoy a walk, picnic or barbeque at the tranquil Hollybank Forest Reserve. One of the earliest private tree plantations, the reserve is now managed by Forestry Tasmania and is a unique blend of magnificent trees, native and exotic, evergreen and deciduous, many planted by English settlers dating back to the 1850's. Hollybank's autumn is splendid, spring is renowned for wild daffodils growing between the ash trees, and at any other time of the year it's a great spot to ramble, explore, or just lie back. The reserve has plenty of safe walking tracks and there are barbeque facilities and toilets.
