Located just off the Heritage Highway, Longford was first settled in 1813 and is one of the oldest towns in northern Tasmania. The town retains its fine old historic buildings, many of which were built by convict labour. Several Longford churches date back to its colonial beginnings. The bluestone Catholic Church and the Anglican Christ Church with its magnificent trees in spacious grounds, first settler’s graves, fine windows and clock are of particular interest.

Longford’s many Georgian style buildings, some still with their original stables, and colonial cottages set in mature gardens, provide modern day glimpses into Australia’s colonial past.

Across the road from Christ Church is the historic village green, with barbecue and picnic facilities.

A local hotel is famous for its memorabilia of Longford’s motor racing history.

A short drive from the town; a well maintained country golf course awaits the enthusiast.

The magnificent Woolmers Estate located on the C520 offers a rare and unique glimpse of Australian Colonial History. A restaurant and colonial accommodation are available on the site.
