Just five kilometres from George Town is historic Low Head, a popular seaside village with locals and tourists alike.

Visit the site of Australia’s oldest continuously operating Pilot Station, and take a wander through the on-site maritime museum which relates the almost-200 year history of the Pilot Station. Drive up to the spectacular Lighthouse (circa 1888) and experience the panoramic views of the peninsula, Tamar River estuary, and pristine surf and river beaches.

If nature is more your forte, take a guided evening tour of the penguin colony and watch these amazing birds scramble back to their burrows in the coastal scrub. Offshore, at Tenth Island, you can take a tour to see a large colony of Australian fur seals bask on the rocks at Tasmania’s most accessible seal breeding colony.

Enjoy walks along East Beach or take a dip at the safe Lagoon Bay on the river. Picnic areas and BBQs are available at both.
