DISTANCES: Hobart 90, Launceston 122

Six kilometres east of Oatlands and the Midlands Highway, the township of Parattah is the highest point on the main railway line linking Hobart and Launceston, being 445 m above sea level.
Opposite the station is the lovely old home known as ‘Fernhurst’ built by the late Dr. Willes who in the 1880s, was the public vaccinator and travelled as far afield as St. Helens and the Tasman Peninsula.

The ‘Austral Park’ farmhouse was once the home of one of Australia’s most famous aviators - Sir Hudson Fysh, prior to becoming the founder of Qantas he was a young married farmer at Parattah.

Of attractive colonial design are the former general store and hotel buildings, now closed.
