A popular resort town midway between St Marys and St Helens on Tasmania’s sunny east coast, offering excellent beaches for surfing and sea, beach and river fishing. The Scamander River is noted for its bream fishing and beautiful scenery along its magnificent estuary. Trout are taken in the upper reaches.
Scamander is ideally situated for scenic outings and short drives through the forestry roads and plantations.
Accommodation includes a motor hotel with its own swimming pool, family holiday units, several holiday cottages and flats and a caravan park. There are shopping facilities, Y.H.A. hostel, sporting facilities and golf course.
Beaumaris, 5 km north of Scamander on the Tasman Highway has excellent beaches and lagoons for water sports and fishing. There are several short walks in the adjoining forestry developments with a magnificent lookout over the coastline.
Beaumaris has a modern motel, public bar and licensed restaurant.
