This is a small rural settlement located on the junction at the Murchison highway and the Mount Hicks secondary highway leading to the west coast from Wynyard.

There is a post office, small commercial centre and a large District High School, Tavern.

Several detours can be made off the highway which takes visitors down quiet country lanes before rejoining the Bass Highway near Wynyard. The surrounding rich country side supports dairy herds, sheep and prime beef cattle. Look out for the colourful painted power poles and make use of the online access centre during your stay.
